Local surgeon helps military personnel heal through skull reconstruction techniques

A Stamford surgeon is helping military personnel heal by reconstructing their skulls if they’re injured in combat.

« We have many, many soldiers out there who are still suffering with their injuries and a number of those injuries are related to defects in their skull, » says Dr. Peter Costantino, of the Brain & Spine Surgeons of NY.

He says while many people focus on the cosmetic aspects of skull reconstruction, the real benefits of these surgeries are functional and protective.
