Ornamental Skulls are a treasure Link can collect in Skyward Sword that is used to upgrade certain gear. Here’s where to find them on the surface.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD brings back the Wii title with refined gameplay options while still retaining the spirit of the original release. One of the many returning features that other games in the franchise include is the treasure system, which lets Link collect numerous resources over the course of the adventure. These treasures can be used to upgrade his equipment to aid in his travels in a variety of ways.
Ornamental Skulls are common treasures players will encounter in Skyward Sword, not to be confused with the rarer Golden Skull. Several of the items Link can upgrade at Gondo’s shop in the Skyloft bazaar require this resource, including the three types of shields, the seed satchel for his slingshot, and his bomb bag. They can also be sold at shops for 30 Rupees apiece if Link is short on funds, though saving up to improve the quality of his gear at the Scrap Shop is a better option.
Finding Ornamental Skulls in Skyward Sword
Many of the monsters in Skyward Sword drop treasures like the Ornamental Skulls as loot. Conveniently, one of the most common enemy types dwelling on the surface, the recurring Bokoblin monsters, have a chance to yield the skulls upon their defeat. A Bokoblin of any color can drop the treasure and they can be easily found in Faron Woods, the Eldin Volcano, and Lanayru desert. Practically every major location on the surface has them right around the corner.
Though players may be tempted to hunt down every one in sight to farm for Ornamental Skulls there are a few tricks to keep in mind that can make the process easier. After giving away 30 gratitude crystals to Batreaux in his sidequest, he’ll give Link the Cursed Medallion. When held, this item will greatly improve the amount of treasures he collects from fallen foes, but prevents him from opening his Adventure Pouch and accessing certain items.
Additionally, players should search for locations with high Bokoblin populations so they can defeat as many at once. Places they should look out for include the stone structure in Faron Woods that leads to the Deep Woods and the encampment to the right of the Earth Temple in Eldin Volcano, but any area many Bokoblin gather is a great place to hunt for Ornamental Skulls. Once all the Bokoblin in a given location have been killed, leave the current map by using the Bird Statue or entering a dungeon and then return for them to respawn.
