While the team remained mum and did not react to the backlash the film faced for showing Jr NTR’s character Komaram Bheem with a skull cap on his head and dressed like a Muslim, the film’s writer KV Vijayendra Prasad opened up about it in a recent interview. When asked about the same, he said, “In the story Bheem faces off the Nizams and their police is looking for him. What better way to camouflage and to evade capture than to pretend he’s one of them? It’s the only reason he wear a skull cap.” While fans had come up with their own theories for it, guess that clears it up.
When asked why Ram Charan’s character Alluri Sitaramaraju is a police officer, he said, “You need to watch the film to know why, there’s a reason behind it.” The writer was also asked about the current political scenario in the country, but he made it clear his film has no religion. “Patriotism and quest for freedom has no religion. What Christian, Muslim, Sikh or Hindu wouldn’t want to be free? Similarly RRR has nothing to do with religion, it’s all about India’s quest for freedom and two historic characters finding their own ways of fighting for it,” he added. Alia Bhatt plays Sitaramaraju’s wife Sita in the film and the actress recently flew down to Hyderabad from Mumbai to wrap up shooting.
Talking about SS Rajamouli’s next film, he opened up that it would be an Indiana Jones style adventure set in Africa but he’s yet to complete the script for it. What’s more, he also addressed the rumour that he’s penning a script for Pawan Kalyan. “I don’t know how that rumour even started. I’m waiting for him to invite me to write for him but I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon,” he said.
